Places to hangout in Kano state. Firstly Kano State is a state located in northern Nigeria. Kano was created on May 27, 1967 from part of the Northern Region, and borders Katsina State to the northwest, Jigawa State to the northeast, Bauchi State to the southeast and Kaduna State to the southwest. The state's capital is the city of Kano.

There are quite a number of amazing places to visit in Kano State and this post is a review on the five best places to visit in Kano.

Kano is quite an interesting state. It is the second largest state in Nigeria by population. The state is considered the commercial hub of northern Nigeria.

Quite a number of successful business men in Nigeria today had links or did business in Kano notable among which is Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote.

The state has a rich cultural heritage that dates back centuries ago. It happened to be one of the primary places of contact for the Islamic community in Nigeria.

1. Kano Walls



Have you heard about the Great China Walls? Well, we have something like that in Kano State.

The Kano Walls were built sometime around the 14th century and like the Great Wall of China, the Kano Walls were built to protect the natives of Kano from marauders and intruders.



The Kano Walls stills stands till today at a staggering 50 feet. It is quite an amazing site, one you should see when you visit Kano.

2. Rock Castle Hotel

The Rock Castle Hotel which is close to the Tigam Dam is another amazing place to visit in Kano.

The Hotel was built to host Queen Elizabeth and her entourage during her first visit to Nigeria in 1960.

Also, the Tigam Dam is a place where you find fishing and boating activities with a good number of the inhabitants of that area as fishermen.

3. Gidan Rumfa

Gidan Rumfa (Rumfa's House) is the palace of the Emir of Kano today. Also known as Gidan Sarki (The King's House), it was built in the 13th century by the then Emir of Kano, Emir Muhammadu Rumfa.



This palace has been standing since the 13th century and has been the home to all of them emirs of Kano since the time of Emir Muhammadu Rumfa till date.



It is an exhibition of architectural prowess and masterpiece. It is one place you should visit when next you go to Kano State.

4. Dala Hills

Dala Hills is where the first inhabitants of Kano settled when they got to Kano thousands of years ago. The inhabitants of Kano at that time pitched their tents on the Hill.

In the 17th century, Dala Hills became a site for Iron workings by the natives of Kano.



Standing 1,753 feet high, Dala Hills has become a popular tourist attraction. It holds thousands of years of history for the people of Kano being their first dwelling place.

5. Kurmi Market

Kurmi Market is the oldest existing markets in Nigeria and even West Africa.

The market is reckoned for the sales of traditional wares such as carvings, calabashes, ancient jewelries, brassworks, leather products, and pottery.

Kurmi Market was established by Emir Muhammadu Rumfa as far back as the 13th century and it is still existing today.



Created during the trans-sahara slave trade when Emir Muhammadu Rumfa was on the throne, the market is believed to have been a sales point for trans-saharan slave trades.

6. Kofar Matar Dye Pits

Kano State is known for the production of textile. Textile production is one of the economical strength of the northern state.

The Kofar Matar Dye Pits are the spots where the textile products by the natives of Kano were dyed.

Tourists go there both to see the rich heritage of the Kano people and also observe how the art of cloth-dyeing is carried out.

It is a great spot to go to when next you visit Kano State.

7. Ado Bayero Mall

Away from the cultural heritages of Kano State, the Ado Bayero Mall is another amazing place to visit in Kano State. The mall although not known to many outside Kano is largely one of the biggest malls in Nigeria.

8. Kano Golf Course

Quite interestingly, Kano State has a golf course and it is one of the oldest golf courses in Nigeria. It is located at Murtala Mohammed way, Kano and was established in 1908.

You may consider taking your golf equipments when next you visit Kano State and hit the golf course for a game of golf.
